Laptop Hardware Upgrade Blueprints

Eliminate guesswork before you buy parts. While manufacturers provide vague spec sheets, our blueprints tell you the exact truth: can you upgrade RAM, what SSD fits without bending the motherboard, tested maximum memory capacity (often double OEM marketing claims), and required USB-C PD wattage.

Why Generic PC Compatibility Tools Fail on Laptops

1. The Double-Sided SSD Trap

Desktop motherboards have open air under the M.2 slot. Compact laptops have strictly 2.0mm to 2.38mm of clearance. Installing a double-sided drive (with bottom NAND flash) forces the PCB against motherboard traces, cracking solder joints.

2. Conservative OEM RAM Ratings

Lenovo, Dell, and ASUS often rate laptops for "up to 32GB" merely because 32GB was the largest module available during product certification. In reality, modern Intel and AMD mobile CPUs natively support 64GB DDR5 SODIMM configurations.

3. USB-C Power Negotiation

Not all USB-C ports charge laptops. Some only output power; others require a strict 20V/5A (100W) Power Delivery 3.0 handshake before accepting current. Our blueprints detail exact minimum and optimal wattage thresholds.
